One of the ag demonstrations at the Morgan County Fairgrounds show on October 1 was harvesting Sorghum cane with a McCormick Deering corn binder. The wood fired syrup kettle above was used to cook the cane juice down to syrup. Larry Lemmond, member #25, worked with the Southland Flywheelers Club of North Alabama to plant the demonstration crops and organize the show. The weather turned cool almost overnight, so the day was perfect for a fall harvest themed tractor, engine, and farm crafts show.
Sweet Sorghum Cane – also known as sugar cane or molasses cane or black strap cane or ribbon cane. The juice is squeezed from the stalk. Then it is boiled down until it becomes molasses syrup.
